NEW ULM–Richard John Marquardt, age 91, of New Ulm, died Monday, February 23, 2026 at the New Ulm Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Father Tanner Thooft will celebrate the Mass, and burial will be in Current Cemetery in rural New Ulm. Visitation will be from 4 -6 p.m. on Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH Chapel in New Ulm, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Richard is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Bernie) Marquardt-Pieper of Shakopee; sons, Mitchell (Robin) Marquardt of New Ulm, Darren (Mary) Marquardt of Courtland, and Michael Marquardt of New Ulm; 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by wife, Doris in 2017; his parents; and his brother, Orval (Nancy) Marquardt Jr.

Richard John Marquardt was born October 22, 1934 in New Ulm to Orval & Myrtle (Ulrich) Marquardt. He was a 1953 graduate from New Ulm Public High School. Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959. On October 2, 1959, Richard was united in marriage to Doris Barnell in New Ulm. The couple was blessed with four children whom together they raised in New Ulm. Richard retired from New Ulm Public Schools in 1999. He loved spending time in the outdoors. Richard was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sons of the American Legion, and was an honorary member of the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club. Blessed be his memory.
