The heart of our family, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother has passed away. Alice Ida Elisabeth Lindquist was born at home as the youngest child to Fredrick and Augusta (Lemke) Schwartz on October 4, 1927, in Lester Prairie, MN. She was baptized at home and later confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. After attending parochial school through eighth grade and graduating from Lester Prairie High School in 1945, she married James Spellum and welcomed children, James and Mary. After their marriage ended, she was employed with 3M in Hutchinson. To her children, she was a wonderful example of hard work, grace, generosity and dignity. She met and married Robert Lindquist in Lester Prairie on August 5, 1967, and settled in Lafayette, MN, where they were blessed with two daughters, Jenny and Anna.
Alice had a lifelong love of learning and had shelves full of books that were read many times over. She delighted in traveling and enjoyed trips to Germany and Sweden with her husband, Bob.
There was always music in her home, singing with her children and grandchildren. She mastered the art of Scandinavian knitting and made sure that her children and grandchildren had warm and beautiful mittens to wear. She was a wonderful cook and nobody ever left the table hungry!
Alice’s faith was foremost in her life. Her day did not begin until she read a chapter of the Bible with a cup of coffee. This love of Jesus was deeply instilled in her children as well.
Blessed be her memory.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Mary Alice (Steve), Jenny Augusta (Chad) and Anna Mae; Bob’s children, Dean (Shirley), Lyle (Carla), Carol Ann (Greg); grandchildren, Charlie (Kate), Stacey, Joe, Ava (Kelly), Julia (Nick), Carl and Erik; great-grandchildren, Jacoby and Zoey; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Augusta Schwartz; husband, Robert; son, James Theodore; brothers, Clarence (Betty), Herbert (Dorothea), Leland (Hildegarde), Harold; sister, Verdella, (Earl). Her best friend of 89 years, Mae Powell, passed away only three months before Alice.
Her Christian faith guided her many times, and many ways. Now, love has finally been answered by the One she had long trusted. She said many times that she anxiously waited for the day where she would see Jesus’ face. She has.
