Jane Angela Botten Wiken
HANSKA–Jane Angela Botten Wiken, 79, of Hanska, MN, unexpectedly passed away on January 25, 2026. Jane was born on May 29, 1946, in New Ulm, MN, the daughter of Harold and Mildred Botten (Vee). Jane graduated from Hanska High School in 1964, then went on to college at Mankato State University and later worked at Merrill Lynch in Minneapolis. Jane married Timothy Kent Wiken and together they raised their four children on the family farm near Godahl, Minnesota. Jane was a dearly beloved mother to her four children, Ursula, Gina, Heather and Joshua, and beloved grandmother to 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Ethan, Michael, Vaughn, Cole, Savannah, Ava, Angelina, Phoebe and Luke.
Jane and Tim enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing cards, bowling, fishing,camping, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling. They were founders of the Plainsmen of the North Star, went on many rendezvous, and hosted trade fairs where Jane sold her leather beadwork.Jane had many lifelong friends and touched many lives with her kind, loving spirit and generosity. She was always dropping off her amazing meals and treats to friends and neighbors, and anyone who needed a helping hand.
She was an avid gardener who loved flowers and took pride in her vegetable garden. Jane loved sharing her fresh vegetables. Her grandchildren especially loved being treated to her pickled beets and bread and butter pickles.Jane was an amazing artist. She had a vision for creating beauty from refinishing old furniture, caning chairs, Native American leather beadworking, wool appliqué penny art, storytelling through embroidery, sewing and crafting dolls and stuffed animals. Her children and grandchildren will always cherish these beautiful handmade gifts from her heart. Jane had a passion for collecting unique and beautiful things from primitives, Native American artifacts, Scandinavian artwork, stoneware to vintage books. She enjoyed going to auctions and sales, shopping at thrift stores, and on EBay-always on the lookout for a treasure.
Jane is survived by her four children, Ursula Speedling (Frank), Gina Deinhart (John), Heather Tlougan (Steve) and Joshua Wiken, ten grandchildren, Ethan, Cole, Ava and Luke Speedling,Vaughn, Savannah and Angelina Deinhart, Matthew and Michael Tlougan, and Phoebe Wiken, her brothers and sister, Ron Botten (Isabelle), Robert Botten (Barb), Ann Nelson (Ronald) and Mark Botten (Regina) and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Kent Wiken, parents, Harold and Mildred Botten and brother-in-law, Ronald Nelson.”May you touch dragonflies and stars, dance with fairies and talk to the moon.”
A Celebration of Life will be held in May in honor of Mom’s 80th birthday
