NEW ULM–Michael “Mick” D. Paulson, age 62, of New Ulm, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 2, 2026. Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel. Pastor Nick Scutari will officiate. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Mick is survived by his beloved dog, Shadow; his daughter, Cassandra Paulson; his son, Michael Jr. (Alex) Paulson; and his grandchildren, Riley, Austin, and Colin Stimpert. He is also survived by his mother, Margaret “Peggy” Paulson; his former wife, Carmen Calbick; his sister, Karen Milbrath; his brother, Kenneth (Kelly) Paulson; and many extended friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Paulson; his brother-in-law, James Milbrath; and his aunt and uncle, Walt and Jan Osborn.
Michael David Paulson was born on May 21, 1963, in New Ulm to Russell and Margaret (Hanson) Paulson. He graduated from New Ulm High School in 1981 and later earned a degree in Auto Body Technology from Mankato Vocational School. Mick had a gift for working on cars, especially custom work, and spent many years working at several autobody shops.
Later in life, Mick chose a new path and worked in group homes, he enjoyed working with the folks he served. Outside of work, he enjoyed camping and boating with his family at Clear Lake. He also found peace in long walks through the woods, often accompanied by his loyal companions throughout the years, most recently Shadow.
