NEW ULM–Margaret M. Freeman, age 64 of New Ulm, died peacefully Monday, December 29, 2025 at her home in New Ulm. A memorial visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home- SOUTH Chapel. Margaret is survived by her daughter Sarah (Mike) Fiemeyer; son Alex Barrett of New Ulm; and Emily (Derek) Olson of Winthrop; grandchildren Samantha (Sarah & Mike) and Flora, Lucy, and Ella (Emily & Derek); and fur babies Odin and Angus.
She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Evelyn Brown (Wilfahrt); sisters Mary Johnson and Kathleen Baune; and brother Paul Brown.
Margaret Mary Brown was born October 20, 1961 in New Ulm to Henry and Evelyn (Wilfahrt) Brown. She graduated in New Ulm from Cathedral High School in the class of 1980. Margaret raised her three children in New Ulm. Early in life, Margaret worked at AMPI in data entry. She was then a familiar face at McDonald’s for over a decade before ending her working career at Freedom Valu Center and Cash Wise Liquor. Margaret had many passions in life including morel mushroom hunting, rock hounding, bird watching (especially hawks and eagles), horses, and Halloween. She was an exceptional cook and was well known for her sauerkraut and dumplings. Margaret was a strong-willed woman with an impressive ability to connect with others from all walks of life. What she loved most in life was her family and friends. She loved spending time with her children and watching her grandchildren grow. She will be deeply missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
She loved house plants. In lieu of flowers, consider sending house plants in her memory!
