She was preceded in death by her husband, George J. Brandel with whom she shared 49 years of marriage; her parents, John, and Helen Kenning; her sister, and brother-in-law, Ramona, and Ed Danhouser; her brother, Elray Kenning, her daughter, Valerie Somerson; her granddaughter, MeLissa (Decker) Knaub; and her son-in-law, Tim Decker.

She is survived by her daughters, Helene Decker, Cynthia Brandel, MeLora (Pete) Ramos, JoEllen (Robert) Fischer; her son, Charles J. Brandel; her sister, Helen (Lynn) Olson; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Kenning; her 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, January 4th, and continue from 9-10 a.m. on Monday, January 5th all at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm.
