NEW ULM–LeRoy Adolph Schapekahm was born on July 17, 1942, and passed away peacefully in his home on December 15, 2025, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, love, strength, and devotion to family.

LeRoy was the son of Martha and Adolph Schapekahm of New Ulm and one of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Bert (Darleen), Gary (Lois), and Rich Schapekahm. He is survived by his sisters, Ruth Bartsch (Dean), Omie Schimmel (Bill), and Judy Schroer (Bud) and sister-in-law Marion Koestler (Arlen).

LeRoy is survived by his beloved wife, Carol (Lambrecht) Schapekahm, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Together they raised four children: Jodi, wife of the late John Sparr; Jana, wife of Kendall Piotter; Jason, married to Lizette Hahnke; and James, with Amy Anderson.

LeRoy was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 201 North State Street in New Ulm at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 20th. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm at a later date. Celebration of Life Fellowship will follow the service from 2:30-4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, Minnesota Valley Lutheran High School or Martin Luther College are preferred.
