Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Brian Scoles will officiate, and burial will follow in the Soldier’s Rest Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church prior to the service on Tuesday. Alan is survived by his sons, David Schwarz of Aitken, James (Sarah) Schwarz of New Ulm, Mark (Barb) Schwarz of Benson, Thomas (Lisa) Schwarz of Big Lake; his 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren (with 2 more on the way); special friend and companion, Janice Lammers; his sister-in-law, Patricia “Pat” Schwarz of Spring Valley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol Schwarz in 2012; his sister, and brother-in-law, Louise, and Harold Cords; and his brothers, and sisters-in-law, Merton, and Elaine Schwarz, Harold “Bob” Schwarz, and Dean, and Shirley Schwarz.

Alan Carl Schwarz was born on December 7, 1928, in St. Clair, Minnesota, to Harold and Laura (Kurth) Schwarz. Growing up in south central Minnesota, Alan graduated from Pemberton High School in 1946. Soon after, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge. On January 23, 1954, Alan was united in marriage to Carol Marka in Mankato. Their years together were filled with love, faith, and countless memories as they raised their four sons. Alan began his working career at a TV repair shop in Bird Island and later worked for the Wilfahrt Brothers in New Ulm before joining 3M, where he spent the bulk of his career. Through hard work and dedication, he advanced to become Maintenance Supervisor and retired in 1988 after many years of service. Outside of work, Alan enjoyed a wide range of hobbies and activities. He loved being outdoors, and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting with his sons. As a sports fan, he rarely missed cheering for a Twins or Vikings game. Alan had a natural curiosity for how things worked and took pride in being able to fix almost anything. He also enjoyed tinkering on projects and simply finding ways to keep his hands busy. In retirement, he and Carol created many cherished memories during the 15 years they spent at their home on Tripp Lake near Nevis, where family gatherings, fishing trips, and quiet evenings by the water became some of his favorite moments. Alan created many memories for his family on the lake, enjoying teaching his grandchildren how to fish and appreciate God’s creations in nature. Alan was a man of deep faith and integrity. He was a devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where he lived out his values of service, humility, and kindness. His steady nature, hardworking spirit, and love for family will be remembered by all who knew him. “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
