Marcia Kay Horner

NEW ULM–Marcia Kay Horner, age 68, of New Ulm, Minnesota died on August 28, 2025 surrounded by family.

Marcia was born in New Ulm, Minnesota to Gail and Sylvia Hopkins. She grew up in New Ulm and graduated from New Ulm High School in 1975. Marcia was very close with her sister Barb. Family always loved watching the two of them dance the jitterbug together. Marcia learned tap dance and enjoyed singing in the music group The Menagerie for many years.

Marcia married the love of her life, Scott Horner on June 12, 1976. Marcia and Scott were excited to start their family. Her daughters Melissa, Jenny and Bria meant the world to her.

Marcia, Scott, and their three daughters moved to Rhinelander, Wisconsin in 1984. Marcia joined bands, like Sassy, sang at many weddings and in her church choir. In 1992, She found her passion in being the Dance Team coach at Rhinelander High School. Marcia was a mentor and advocate for many teens during her 13 years as coach. Dubbing her as “Mom” to many on her team.

Marcia enjoyed sharing her talent and love of music with everyone. She enjoyed watching her daughters grow and loved going to their concerts, sports and community events, showing them she was their biggest fan. Marcia enjoyed her girl trips with her daughters and treasured her time with her six grandchildren. Her hobbies included singing, dancing, the many family pets, watching MASH, Law and Order SVU, and her favorite movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Marcia loved spending her time with Scott on the motorcycle and going for pontoon rides and camping. She was a great hostess at holiday events with extended family. Her Thanksgiving stuffing was a hit! She was witty, charismatic and beautiful.

Marcia will always be remembered by her caring and compassionate ways. She was an amazing wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend.

Marcia was proceeded in death by her parents, Gail and Sylvia Hopkins; her grandparents; her father in-law, Jerome “Jerry” Horner; brother in-law, Jeffrey Horner; and granddaughter, Taylor Salaam.

Marcia is survived by her husband, Scott; daughters, Melissa (Hakim) Salaam, Jenny (Willy) Hoffhein, and Bria (Justin) Wright; grandchildren, Makenzie, Hannah, Jaida, Hayden, Avayah, and Sophia; her sister, Barb (Jerald) Marti; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and her beloved dog, Kaylee.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Cambria Town Hall. Private family graveside services will be held at the New Ulm City Cemetery Columbarium.

Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting her family.
