Joan was born on November 7, 1941, in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of Casper and Theresa (Leibl) Dummer. She attended St. George grade school, graduated from New Ulm Cathedral High School, and obtained a Math Education degree from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. On August 14, 1965, she married Patrick Rosenhamer at St. George Catholic Church. Together they raised four children on the family farm where she lived until 2022. She later moved to the Lake Villa Maria Apartments, where she resided until her passing.
Joan lived her Catholic faith fully through her devotion to the Catholic Church, the Sacraments, Prayer, and her faithful attendance at weekly adoration. She was also a strong advocate for the sanctity of life, supporting MCCL for many years. She expressed her love for family through her many talents – her fabulous cooking and baking, her cherished Christmas and Holiday traditions, her encouragement of education, and her sharing of faith. She treasured time with loved ones and found great joy in playing games with her grandchildren and visiting with nieces and nephews. A gifted woman, she began her career as a math teacher before becoming her husband’s partner in running a successful dairy farm. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, baking, sewing, watching the Twins and Vikings, involvement in 4-H, and keeping up with politics.
She is survived by children, David (Christy) of New Ulm, Brenda (Chris) Duesman, of North Oaks, Glen (Janine) of Northfield, Brad (Jessica) of Polk City, Iowa; grandchildren, Allison, Anthony, Michelle, Daniel, Amelia, Lydia, Louis, Ella, and Nora; sister Millie Hillesheim, brother David (Nikki) Dummer, sister in-law Marge Dummer and many nieces and nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband Patrick; brothers Donat (Vernita) Dummer, Fr. Leo Dummer, Joseph Dummer; sisters Bernice (James) Palmer, Anne (James) Powers; brothers- in-law Melvin Hillesheim, Dennis (Mildred) Rosenhammer, and Leander (Angela) Rosenhammer.
