LaVerna Dolores Ludewig was born April 4, 1932 in Sleepy Eye to Urban and Pearl (Mickelson) Ludewig. She attended District #39 country school in Stark Township and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s. On September 8, 1949, LaVerna was united in marriage to George Berg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They were blessed with three daughters and one son, whom together they raised in New Ulm when they moved to town in 1960. LaVerna spent 33 dedicated years working at 3M, retiring in 1995. LaVerna found joy in many things–whether it was dancing to polka and old-time music, sitting around the table playing cards (especially sheepshead), or spending a peaceful day out fishing. Family gatherings, especially Christmases, were some of her most cherished moments. Known for her dedication and strong work ethic, LaVerna always kept her home spotless and orderly. Work was never just a duty for her–it was an important part of her identity. LaVerna and George were truly two peas in a pod, partners in every sense of the word, and together they shared a bond built on love and companionship. Above all else, family was at the very heart of her life. LaVerna was devout to her faith and was a long-time member for St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
LaVerna’s love and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
