NEW ULM–Geneva Thomas, age 93 of New Ulm died peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2025, and will continue from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025 all at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel in New Ulm. Geneva is survived by daughters, Connie (Donnie) Richter of New Ulm, Susan Peterson of New Ulm, and Pamela Neumann of Marshall; son, Douglas (Linda) Neumann of Bellevue, NE; stepchildren, James (Diane) Thomas, Ella (Jon) ZImmerman, Irene (Bernie) Blank, Melvin (Sandy) Thomas, Mary (Dick) Krosch, Carri (Brian) Roerish, and Terri Anderson; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; her sisters, Irene Vogel of Courtland, Marion Brueske of New Ulm, and Bernice Polzin of New Auburn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Garnet (Barney) Neumann, Gordon Grothem, and Clyde Thomas; stepchildren Clyde Thomas Jr., Maxine (Roger) Blomquist, Linda (Harold) Schultz, Sharon (Jack) Long, and Daniel Anderson; her sisters, Lorraine Krohn, Agnes Langhoff, Delores Langhoff, Frances Miller, and Lucille Boelter; brother Erwin “Erv” (Margaret) Boelter; her half-brothers Lester (Erma) Boelter and Norman (Vera) Boelter; her brothers-in-law, Elmo Krohn, Richard “Dick” Langhoff, Emery Langhoff, Floyd Miller, Vernon Vogel, LeRoy Brueske, and Orville Polzin.
Geneva Martha Thomas was born July 17, 1931, in New Ulm to Herman and Frieda (Gerke) Boelter. She was united in marriage to Garnet Neumann in 1950 and blessed with four children: Connie, Douglas, Susan, and Pamela, whom they raised together in New Ulm. She worked at Ben Franklin, Coast-to-Coast Hardware, 3M, and New Ulm Growers until retirement.
The most important things in her life was the time spent with her family; watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren learn and grow. She also loved dancing to polka music, gardening and flowers, as well as embroidering, quilting and traveling with her husband Clyde.
She was a lifetime member of the New Ulm VFW Post #1648, serving as The Women’s Auxiliary President three times. Geneva was also a member of the New Ulm American Legion Post #132.
