Evelyn Lorraine Iverson was born on June 5, 1928, to Harold and Amanda (Olson) Iverson in Franklin, Minnesota. She graduated from Willmar High School in 1946. Following graduation, she worked in clerical positions in town before moving to Minneapolis and later spending a brief period in New Orleans. Evelyn went on to enlist in the Women’s Army Corps, where she was stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, and later in Tokyo, Japan, serving until the end of the Korean War.
After her military service, she pursued higher education at St. Olaf College and the University of Minnesota. It was during a summer class at the university that she met Conrad Fristedt. The two were united in marriage on March 26, 1955, at Vinji Lutheran Church in Willmar.
Evelyn spent almost 20 years raising her children before reentering the workforce. She dedicated many years of her professional life as a secretary with Vocational Rehabilitation in Alexandria. Over the years, Evelyn enjoyed serving her community through volunteer work at Douglas County Hospital, Knute Nelson Care Center, and EldernetMN. She was also a devoted member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Nelson, where her kindness and warmth touched many.
Evelyn was known for her uplifting spirit, sweet smile, and sincere interest in others. She had a gift for making people feel valued and loved. She enjoyed games–especially cribbage–along with music, flowers, traveling, and cooking. Above all, her greatest joy was her family and the time spent with them. Evelyn’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
