Florence was born September 2, 1933, to Frank and Elizabeth (Willems) Hellmann, in Barron, Wisconsin. It was there she lived on the family farm and received her education before moving to Minneapolis where she met and married John “Jack” Gangelhoff. Their marriage took place in Almena, Wisconsin on June 13, 1953. They were married 58 years when Jack passed away in 2012. Together they had five children, David (Teresa) Gangelhoff, So. St. Paul, Joan (Dennis) Dording, Winthrop, Greg (Mary) Gangelhoff, Sleepy Eye, Michael (Betsy) Gangelhoff, Apple Valley, and Dan (Tami) Gangelhoff, New Ulm. She leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and thirty-three great-grandchildren.

Florence was active in her children’s activities. She cheered loudly for the St. Mary’s Knights when her children were involved in sports. She served as a leader in 4-H and Cub Scouts and taught Religious Education classes at St. Mary’s. She belonged to Red Hats, St. Rita’s Study Club, and over the years, she worked at the Orchid Inn and Divine Providence Home. Wherever she went, she made lasting and treasured friendships. She always had a story to tell followed by a good laugh!

Her hobby was quilt-making. She made a quilt for each child, a crib size, a twin size, and finally a wedding quilt as gifts. She enjoyed planning parties for her friends to celebrate special occasions. She was a generous person who remembered her family, friends, and neighbors with a card, phone call, or food.

Besides her immediate family, she leaves behind her brother, Joe Hellmann; sister-in-law, Sue Hellmann; and brother-in-law, Wayne (Sandra) Roux. She was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack”; parents, Frank and Elizabeth Hellmann; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Florence Gangelhoff; granddaughter, Stacy Dording; sister, Bernadine Roux; brother and sister-in-law, Frank (Fern) Hellmann; brothers, Raymond and Paul Hellmann; sister-in-law, Barb Hellmann and the Gangelhoff in-laws, Loretta (Richard) Engholdt, Leona (Joe) Coulombe, Florence (Marvin) Hedenland, Clarence (Eileen) Gangelhoff, Harold (Millie) Gangelhoff, and Joe (Mary) Gangelhoff.

Memorials are preferred to St. Mary’s School, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Divine Providence Community Home.

Per Florence’s request she wanted this said, “Life has been so good to me. Thank you, God!”
