COMFREY–Joyce Platz, age 83, of Comfrey, MN, died on May 9, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN. Visitation will be on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Comfrey. Service will be held at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The clergy will be Father Craig Timmerman . Interment will be at the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey, MN. Joyce Sophie Platz was born July 14, 1941, in Mulligan Township to Ambrose and Pearl (Bock) Hornick. She grew up and attended school in Sleepy Eye and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public School in 1959. Joyce married Kenneth Platz on June 7, 1960 at the Japanese Martyrs Catholic Church in Leavenworth. In the fall of 1969, Kenneth and Joyce bought the Ben Cullen farm west of Comfrey and began farming together until retirement. She also worked at the Comfrey grocery store until the tornado in 1998 and later at Schneider Drug until their doors closed in 2010. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her children – Susan (Terry) Platz-Cunningham, Darrell (Jolene) Platz, Jane (Mark) Abel, Lisa (Larry) Allen, Daniel (Renee’) Platz; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and brothers – Jerry Hornick and Roger (Jan) Hornick. She was preceded in death by parents Ambrose and Pearl Hornick, husband Kenneth, a stillborn son, granddaughter – Amber Rose; and a sister – Lois Hornick.
