Myron Martin Helget

Myron Martin Helget, age 85, of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, and a former long-time Fridley and Shakopee, Minnesota resident, has passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.
Myron was born March 16, 1939, in Comfrey, Minnesota to parents Joseph Jr. and Loretta (Mathiowetz) Helget. Myron was raised in Comfrey before leaving for Sleepy Eye to attend St. Mary’s Catholic High School. He then attended Nazareth Hall and Saint Paul Seminar. He then relocated to Illinois where he attended three more years of Seminary at St. Procopius in Joliet. He would be ordained a Priest at Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm in 1966. He served the New Ulm Diocese until 1976.
On November 19, 1977, Myron was united in marriage to Marion Catherine Strobel at the Church of St. William in Fridley, Minnesota. Myron and Marion resided in Fridley for over 20 years before relocating to Shakopee. Myron worked as a sales associate for years with Sears Corporation. Marion, the love of Myron’s life, passed on March 23, 2022.
Myron was an avid champion for social justices and advocate for volunteer service. Myron gave of his time volunteering with the Arboretum, and as a Stevens Ministry also as a Chaplain for the Minnesota State Veterans Home. Myron also took pride in educating others as well. He was open with his life experiences and had the ability to listen to you, hear your concerns, and offer guidance, without judgement and with empathy. He was a people person, and would often head out dropping in on friends, often unannounced, but with a great smile and lots of love. After Marion passed away, he often would be visiting with other residents. He enjoyed a good game of Kings in the Corner (cards) and watching the Vikings or other sporting events.
Myron had a big heart that was filled with lots of love, he will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his siblings, Ronald (Bernetta) Helget, Arlys (Ray) Fell, James Helget, and MaryAnn (Roger) Merritt; sister-in-law, Arlene Helget; Brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Strobel and sister-in-law Elaine Winter. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his parents, Joseph Jr. and Loretta Helget, and his brother, Cyril Helget.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 4, 10:30 AM, at Pax Christi Catholic Church, 12100 Pioneer Trail – Eden Prairie. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at church and Thursday, October 3, 4-8 PM at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220 3rd Ave E – Shakopee. Burial will be at a later date at St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery in Comfrey, MN.
