Caroline Bertha Templin was born June 26, 1935, in Buffalo, Minnesota to Harold and Ernestine (Hohl) Templin. Growing up in Buffalo, Caroline was a 1953 graduate from Buffalo High School. She furthered her education at DMLC in New Ulm where she studied education. Early in her life, she taught in Fon du Lac and Kenosha Wisconsin and then in New Ulm Minnesota. Caroline was united in marriage to Gary Carmichael on June 29, 1957, in Buffalo Minnesota. This union blessed the couple with a son and a daughter whom together they raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Mankato, Minnesota, and later in New Ulm where they moved the family in 1965. In 1980, they were blessed by a daughter and raised her in New Ulm.
Caroline worked throughout her life in creative roles, most notably for her work as a professional seamstress, making her family’s clothes, doing alterations, knitting, needlepoint, and making quilts. She also worked in retail in New Ulm for Pink’s department store in the fabric department, and then Ehlers department store later on. As her daughter Christine grew her business, Caroline helped her as an Executive Assistant throughout Christine’s business development. As Christine’s health became more challenging, Caroline, and Gary became Christine’s PCAs until she was called to heaven too. Caroline was also noted for her leadership skills as President of Ladies Aid for St. John’s Lutheran Church for many years and served on the Altar Guild. Caroline was always positive and saw life as a challenge. She was gifted with creativity, especially music, playing piano and singing in the choirs of DMLC and then in the St. John’s choir. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking with new recipes, and spending time in heartfelt conversations with friends and family.
