NEW ULM–Marla Royer, 78, of New Ulm died Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2024 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Nathan Scharf officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2024 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH Chapel in New Ulm and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Marla is survived by her sons, Lance Royer of New Ulm and Ryan (Bev) Royer of New Ulm; grandson, Jonathan Royer; and her brother, Gerald Olson of New Ulm. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle Royer; sisters-in-law, Elaine Barnes, Genevieve Gluth, Doris Barker; brother-in-law, Orville Royer; and her favorite dog, Rascal.
Marla Jean Olson was born October 3, 1945 in New Ulm to Elmer and Beatrice (Havemeier) Olson. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1965. She was united in marriage to Lyle Royer on July 7, 1973 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Marla worked at Kraft for 37 years and then after her retirement she worked at Oak Hills for a short time. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, reading, coloring, puzzles, playing cards and loved to watch the Twins play. Above all else she loved to spend time with her family especially with her grandson. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
