Pete was beloved by his family and friends. Born and raised in Minnesota, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and tending to his garden, and was a loyal fan of all the Minnesota sports teams. He was an avid reader, a speed reader, in fact, who was well-rounded and a wealth of knowledge. Pete’s dry sense of humor remained sharp and intact, offering moments of levity and laughter to those around him. Pete enjoyed the simple things – a nice cup of coffee, a good meal, butter on almost everything and a television “clicker” within arm’s reach. But most of all, he loved spending time with his family. From reading the Christmas story to his grandchildren every year, to sharing his signature dish of homemade lasagna, he will be remembered by those who loved him.
Pete joined the Air Force after graduating from high school in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He then went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Mankato State University. Pete married Lois Dauffenbach in 1965 and they went on to raise three loving children in Madelia, Minnesota. Pete was active within the community, donating his time to the food shelf, Lions Club, and other church-related functions. He was a hard-working man, retiring from his position as night manager at Hy-Vee in Mankato at the age of 74.
Pete is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lois; their three children and spouses, Brent (Barb), Nicole (Jens Lucking), and Sara (Ryan Ringen); grandchildren, Brianna, Bailey, Jenson, Kallie, Sophie, and Everlie; and as well as his niece, Robin Bizjack and nephews.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Audrey Beager.
