Wallace “Wally” Alex Guggisberg was born June 11, 1936, in New Ulm to Louis and Viola (Boettger) Guggisberg. He attended country grade school, and soon after, went to work on his family’s farm. Wally later proudly served his country with the US Army. Wally was united in marriage to Louise Hoffmann on April 2, 1959, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. This union blessed the couple with a daughter and three sons whom together they raised on their farm in Cornish Township. Wally worked his entire career as a dedicated and hard-working farmer. Throughout his career Wally raised a variety of animals on his farm, but he predominantly worked as a crop and dairy farmer. Wally loved nature and all animals, but he found the most joy and relaxation in fishing. Many laughs and memories were shared amongst friends on the countless fishing trips to Canada they would make. Wally was known as a social man who truly enjoyed the company of others. He always made time to visit friends and neighbors and was continuously generous with his time and his talents. He was a hard worker his entire life, and would be there for anyone who was in need. Wally served on numerous agricultural boards over his life, and was also active in the Lafayette Lions Club, and the Lafayette American Legion Post 300. Wally was a past member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, and a current member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. May these memories and the countless others forever stay in the hearts and minds of all who knew Wally best. Blessed be those memories.
