Isidor “Izzy” Faerber

NEW ULM–Isidor “Izzy” Faerber, age 93, of New Ulm, passed away Monday, May 27, 2024 at Oak Hills Living Center.

Funeral Service will be at 11 am on Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Mary’s. Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will follow in New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue from 9:30 -10:30 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at the North Chapel. Isidor “Izzy” “PoppaDaddy” Faerber, beloved husband, devoted father, and cherished member of the New Ulm community, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the age of 93. Izzy’s life was one filled with dedication, service, and a deep-rooted commitment to those he loved and the community he called home.

Isidor Peter Faerber Jr. was born in West Newton Township, on May 16, 1931, to Isidor Sr. and Mary (Priesinger) Faerber. Izzy’s journey was one marked by steadfast loyalty and a tireless work ethic. After answering the “call” (before graduating from New Ulm High School), to serve his country, proudly joined the US Army Reserves where he served in the infantry from 1950 to 1952. His bravery and dedication during his military service exemplified his commitment to duty and honor. Izzy was united in marriage to Lois Leahey at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm on April 7, 1953. This union blessed them with 9 children.

Over the course of Izzy’s life, he worked at several different establishments including Dannheim’s Dairy, Tillman’s Bakery, and B.F. Goodrich. Later in life Izzy and his wife Lois, started Faerber Construction, Izzy Dorry’s Roller Rink, Faerber’s Café, Faerber’s Laundromat, and Izzy-Gene’s Gas Station in Courtland.

Izzy is survived by his daughters, Christine (Paul) Stodola of New Ulm, Zbeth (Paul) Sutherland of Saratoga Springs, New York, Katrina (Richard) Hill of Kalispell, Montana, Hallietta Hagen of New Ulm, and Sabina (Richard) Traulich of New Ulm; sons Isidor “Pat” Faerber III, Michael (Patrice) Faerber, and Dominic “Dondi” Faerber, all of New Ulm; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; sisters, Polly (Terry) Haefner, Sister Gretchen Faerber; brother, George (Kay) Faerber.

Izzy was preceded in death by his wife Lois, his parents, a son, Moray “Rayle” Faerber, son-in-law Allan Hagen, Dondi’s significant other Brenda Wear, sisters Marie Wolf, Loretta Windschitl, Florence Apple, brothers Joe Faerber, Stanley Faerber, and Mark Faerber.

The last years of his life at Oak Hills Izzy enjoyed meals with fellow Veterans, BINGO, and the loving staff all of whom he considered family.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Oak Hills nurses, caregivers, and staff for the loving care they gave our dad. Also, thank you to Dr. Lovig, and nurse practitioners Karen H. Distad and Julie Long of NUMC.
