Jerome was born June 29th, 1932 in Mankato to Peter and Madeline (Poncin) Peters. He graduated from Nicollet High School in 1950 and played football for the Raiders. Like many Minnesotans at the time, he was drafted into the US Army in 1953 and after Basic Training at Fort Riley, KS, he attended the Army’s engineering school at Fort Belvoir, VA. He was then stationed near San Francisco, California. In 1954, he volunteered for service in South Korea and spent 1954-1955 as a combat engineer with the 7th Infantry Division defending the De-Militarized Zone after the armistice.

He returned home to the Peters family farm in 1955 and never left, growing the farm with his brother Charles. On January 16th, 1971 he was united in marriage to Marlys Peters (Starke) at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Belgrade Township. After marriage the couple farmed together in Belgrade Township and raised their family there. Jerome was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the American Legion in Nicollet and served on the board of the Nicollet Co-operative Oil Association for many years. He enjoyed playing golf and traveling to Arizona where he and Marlys spent over 20 winters there together. He loved to watch the Vikings, Twins and Timberwolves and enjoyed farming until his health wouldn’t allow him to help any longer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
