Darwin L. Bruns

ST. PETER–Darwin L. Bruns, age 79, of St. Peter passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato surrounded by his loving family.

Darwin L. Bruns was born May 28, 1944, to Fred and Verneeda (Bendix) Bruns in New Ulm. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Courtland and later graduated from Nicollet High School. Darwin was united in marriage to Carla Rosenberg on May 15, 1965, in Grey Eagle, MN.

Darwin approached every task with dedication and took pride in his work. He worked at Minnesota State University, Mankato until his retirement in 2007.

Outside of work, Darwin had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed woodworking, old-time music, camping, and traveling; he visited all 50 states and parts of Canada, Mexico, and Europe. He was an avid deer hunter for over 40 years and a self-taught musician playing the button accordion. Amidst his many adventures, his greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and attending all of their school activities.

Darwin is survived by his wife Carla and their daughters, Michelle Meyer and Sheri Bruns; grandchildren, Anthony (Brian) and Travis (Tori) Meyer; sisters-in-law, Mary Bruns, Roxann Rosenberg, Ruth Rosenberg; brother-in-law, James Stein, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Patrick Meyer; his sisters, Arlene Stein and Dolores Syverson; brothers, Dennis and Virgil Bruns; an infant brother; his father-in-law and mother-in-law; sister-in-law, Oradell Bruns; and brothers-in-law, Delmont Syverson and Steven Rosenberg.

Darwin will be greatly missed by those who knew him. His laughter, his love, and his legacy will live on in our hearts forevermore. Blessed be his memory.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter with Pastor David Christenson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenhill Cemetery in St. Peter. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the memorial service.
