NEW ULM–Charles Waibel, age 87, of New Ulm died Tuesday, January 31, 2024 at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity with Monsignor Grams officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita Waibel of New Ulm; daughter, Angela Zebell of Blaine; sons, Mark (Cori) Waibel of Aurora, CO, Randal (Karen) Waibel of Strassburg, CO, David (Amy) Waibel of New Ulm, James (Tammy) Waibel of New Ulm, Peter Waibel of Alliance, NE; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Patrin of Hoffman, MN; brothers, Leo (Ruth) Waibel of New Ulm, John (Marlys) Waibel of New Ulm; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-law, Tom and Sunday Waibel.

Charles Joseph Waibel was born December 30, 1936 in rural Sigel to Charles A. and Mary (Stadick) Waibel. He attended country school and helped his family on the farm. On May 9, 1964 Charles was united in marriage to Rita Domeier at St. John’s the Baptist church in Searles. This union blessed the couple with one daughter and five sons, whom together they raised on the farm in Sigel. Charlie farmed in Sigel township for the majority of his life. Later, he worked at Del Monte in Sleepy Eye and Bloedel Monument in New Ulm. Charlie enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and red tractors. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and took pleasure in talking with people. He liked animals and pets, especially german shepherds. Charlie was proud of his family and was always happy to be around them, making many memories. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Blessed be his memory.
