Kay was born September 6, 1962, to Donald and Opal (Havemeier) Dewanz. She graduated from New Ulm High School. She was united in marriage to Daniel Meinzer on June 5, 1982. Dan and she were blessed with two children, Jennifer and Danielle. Kay worked at Shayd’s of Color for 28 years and then started a new career in banking at New Ulm Citizens bank for over 10 years. She enjoyed the connections to her work colleagues and customers.
Kay’s joys included playing softball (many knowing her expletive for a ball coming to her in the outfield), volleyball, having colleagues to her home for wine after a particularly bad day, a good day or just average day, Friday nights and more at the B&L Bar and making wine. Hosting family holidays and spontaneous gatherings were her favorites. Kay enjoyed assisting Dan at events for trap shooting, Ducks Unlimited, Izaak Walton League, Pheasants Forever and Deer Hunter Assoc. Her greatest joy was being Oma to Peyton.
Kay is survived by her husband, Daniel, daughters Jennifer Meinzer (partner, Kent Bird) of Henderson, and Danielle (Chad) Hemme of New Ulm; granddaughter Peyton Hemme; mother, Opal Dewanz; siblings; Chris Carroll of Mankato, Clayton (Christie) Dewanz of rural New Ulm and Kevin (Donna) Dewanz of New Ulm; mother-in-law, Carol Meinzer; and many nephews.
Kay is preceded in death by her father Donald Dewanz, father- in- law, Curtis Meinzer, brothers- in -law Shawn Meinzer and James Carroll and sister-in-law Michelle Meinzer
The family wishes to thank friends who made her life complete and allowed her to stay in her home during her cancer journey. There are too many people to list who spent hours helping with care-giving, making meals for the family or just stopping by with words of encouragement and love. The family would also like to express gratitude to the Allina Home Health Care and hospice team and to her team of work colleagues at Citizens Bank. There are not enough words.
