Funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, at Faith United Church in Winthrop with Pastor Merline Duering officiating. Burial will follow in the Winthrop Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, and 10-11 a.m. on Monday, prior to service, all at church.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of Gibbon are assisting the family with arrangements at this time.

Marlys is survived by her husband of 63 years, Charles Schuette of Winthrop; daughter, Jaynne Sontiduro of Winthrop; sons, Steven (Sirakan) Schuette of Winthrop and Lary (Sue Huelskamp Nelson) Schuette of Cannon Falls; grandchildren, Bo Schuette and Valeena Sontiduro; great-grandchildren, Ella and Noah Schuette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Valena Woods; step-mother, Zieta Woods; sisters, Donna Grinvalds, Carol Olson, Marjorie Hillmann; brothers, Harold Woods, Jr., Marion Woods, Dennis Woods; sisters-in-law, Eunice Woods, Mavis Woods, Margo Woods; brothers-in-law, Emil Grinvalds, Maynard Olson, Orlando Hillmann.

Marlys Joan Woods was born May 19, 1937 to Harold and Valena (Stiehm) Woods in Cornish Township. She attended country school and graduated from Gibbon High School. Marlys was confirmed in her faith at Lafayette Methodist Church. On August 14, 1959 Marlys was united in marriage to Charles Schuette at Lafayette Methodist Church. This union blessed the couple with three children. Marlys dedicated her early years to raising her children and worked at various jobs. She was a natural helper. She was a teacher’s aide with special education students at Winthrop school, a nurses aid at Winthrop Samaritan Center, a babysitter, and had a wild life sanctuary. She was also a part of the kitchen staff at Martin Luther College for some time. Marlys was a member of Faith United Church, where she was the Memorial Treasurer and secretary, on the Women’s society and Christian Women’s group, and also the Winthrop Fireman’s Auxiliary. Some of Marlys’ other interests included photography, flower gardening, taking care of animals, baking, singing, music, reading, camping, traveling, and watching movies. Marlys had a good life but will be missed dearly by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
