NEW ULM — Marlyn D. Smith, age 79, of New Ulm passed away Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 at the St. James Hospital.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel. Burial will take place in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hanska.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH Chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marlyn is survived by his children, Michael (April) Smith, Christopher (Shannon) Smith, Julie (Jamie) Jensen; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Smith, Leanne (Pat) Wentz; brothers, Leon Smith, Jerry (Judy) Smith, Dean Smith, Lynn (Patricia) Smith; many nieces, nephews and many friends who considered him a dad.
He is preceded in death by his parents, nieces, Tammy, Amy; nephew Chad; great-granddaughter, Esther Jensen and sister-in-law, Debbie Smith.
Marlyn Douglas Smith was born Jan. 16, 1943 to Harold and Elsie (Chute) Smith in New Ulm. Marlyn was a nice, gentle caring soul who loved to talk to people. He farmed with his father in the Hanska area before working various construction jobs he later drove truck for Riblet Products and worked at the Saw Mill in Courtland where he retired from. After his retirement he moved to Portland, Or. and later Arizona and then back to Minnesota to be closer to his family. Marlyn enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, traveling especially to Duluth and fixing anything with an engine. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
