Dolores E. Syverson

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona (formerly of North Mankato, Minnesota) — Dolores E. Syverson passed away peacefully on Monday, May 23, 2022, at Hayden Villa Assisted Living Home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Messiah Lutheran Church in North Mankato, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour before the service and also on Friday, June 3, from 4-6 p.m. at Woodland Hills Funeral Home, 1605 Woodland Ave., Mankato, Minnesota, where the family will greet visitors. Interment will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato.

Dolores was born on March 30, 1926, in rural Courtland, Minnesota, to Fred and Selma (Precht) Bruns. She grew up on the family farm near Courtland, graduating from Nicollet High School in 1944. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Courtland.

On March 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Delmont Syverson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. They had two children, Johnne and Mary.

Dolores attended Mankato Commercial College as an adult in 1963, after which she became the school secretary at North Mankato Jr. High, followed by becoming Secretary to the Principal at Mankato East High School. She finished her career at South Central Technical College in North Mankato, where she managed the bookstore until her retirement in 1986.

Dolores had many interests, including crocheting, knitting, cross stich, quilting, sewing, baking, and gardening. She was well-known for teaching young people how to make lefse at holiday time. She and Del loved to square dance with their friends. After their retirement, Dolores and Del enjoyed spending winters in Arizona for 20 years before moving there permanently in 2008.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delmont; and her siblings, Dennis Bruns, Virgil Bruns and Arlene Stein. She is survived by her brother, Darwin Bruns of St. Peter, Minnesota; her son, Johnne (Linda) Syverson of Des Moines, Iowa; and her daughter, Mary (Jay Budzien) Stapelman of Scottsdale, Arizona. She has six grandchildren: Michele Pettorini, Beth Syverson, Matthew Syverson, Jennifer Beck and Andrew Stapelman, 17 great-grandchildren, and many friends and acquaintances.
