Augie “Buzz” James Bloedel was born May 17, 1937, in New Ulm to August and Magdalena (Bauman) Bloedel. He grew up in New Ulm and was a 1955 graduate of New Ulm High School. On Oct. 19, 1957, Buzz was united in marriage to Jean Hauptli at a small country church near Rowena, Minnesota. This union blessed the couple with two daughters and two sons, whom together they raised in St. Cloud and later New Ulm. Early in his life, Buzz worked at his family’s business, Bloedel Monument in New Ulm, where he learned the trade of granite and concrete work. He later became a police officer and served for nearly a decade in St. Cloud. Buzz later moved his family to New Ulm in 1974 and went into the trucking industry, where he worked for his brother, Barry, at New Ulm Freight Lines before becoming his own boss as an owner-operator of Viking Trucking in New Ulm. Besides his work, there were a variety of hobbies Buzz enjoyed in life. As an avid outdoorsman, he always enjoyed a relaxing trip to the lake to go fishing, and also loved to socialize and have a good laugh over a hand of cards with family and friends. Countless memories were made over the years with his family at their cabin on Long Lake. He was a dedicated member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, where he volunteered many hours helping with church dinners, as well as served as the congregations handyman, where he helped paint and did any general maintenance the church needed. Buzz will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Blessed be his memory.
