Melba attended country grade school in Brighton Township-District 59, and was a 1938 graduate from DMLHS. Melba was united in marriage to Harvey Hopp on June 1, 1941, at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brighton Township. This union blessed the couple with two sons, whom together they raised on their farm in Bernadotte Township. Together with her husband Harvey, Melba helped work the farm and raise their family from 1955 until the couple eventually retired in 1984, but stayed living on the farm. Melba had a lifelong fascination with genealogy and studying her family tree. She was able to complete many family-tree books which will be appreciated for generations to come. She truly loved people and was a true resource to the community, knowing most of the area’s families, traditions, and heritages quite well. Melba also enjoyed working with her hands and loved to shared her gifts of quilting, caning furniture, and cross stich art with many. As an avid sports fan, Melba never missed a chance to watch her favorite teams the Twins and Timberwolves play ball. Melba also appreciated working outside in her gardens through the summers so she could can her produce in the fall. Melba was able to travel to many places over her lifetime. Treasured memories were made travelling to such locations as Germany, Austria, Canada, Scotland, England, and throughout the entire United States. She was a devout member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet, where she was active with the LWMS as well as many other volunteer positions. Most recently, she enjoyed completing puzzles to stay busy. Although Melba lived a long 102 years of life, she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. May her memory stay in the hearts of all who had the honor of knowing and loving her. Blessed be her memory.
