Duane Charles Marstone

Duane Charles Marstone, age 86, of New Ulm, died Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at Lake Hanska Lutheran Church in Hanska, with Pastor Kelly Heide officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will follow in Lake Hanska Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. The visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Duane is survived by his daughters, Roxanne (Michael) Paulson of Hanska, Kimberly Marstone of New Ulm, and Beth (Steven) Nelson of New Ulm; son, Scott Marstone of Mankato; grandchildren, Nicole Paulson, Jessica (Richard) Ringler, Dakota Nelson and Dylan Nelson; great-grandchildren, Cooper Jensen, Madison Powell, Peyton, Harper and Ryker Ringler; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of over 57 years, Carole, in 2019; his parents; sisters, Gladys (Gerald) Hottman and Charlotte Marstone; and brothers, Merle (Alice) and Orville Marstone.

Duane Charles Marstone was born on Feb. 9, 1936, in Hanska to Ole & Gena (Helling) Marstone. He attended Hanska Country Grade School and graduated from Hanska High School in 1954. He served in the Army National Guard from 1959-1964. He was united in marriage to Carole Jean Blekestad on Dec. 27, 1961, in Esterville, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children. Duane had been employed by Kraft, Skyline and Farmers Coop of Hanska-Hanska division. In 1998, Duane retired from the Farmers Coop of Hanska. In 2005, they sold the family farm and moved to New Ulm. Duane enjoyed fishing, camping, puzzles, bird watching and spending time with his grandchildren. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a dedicated lifelong member of the Lake Hanska Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was also a member of the VFW.

He will be dearly missed by those who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
