Cpl. Peter Nicholas Klimek, age 24, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, in Colorado.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, 2022, and continue from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the New Ulm Event Center in New Ulm, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at the New Ulm Event Center in New Ulm, where friends and family are invited and encouraged to share a memory or a story.

Following the service, full military honors will take place at the Soldier’s Rest Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm. Honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard as well as the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time.

Peter is survived by his parents, Paul and Carol Klimek of Aurora, Colorado; his sisters, Molly Klimek of Aurora, Colorado, Kate Klimek of Winona, MN; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Ardella Schluender of Alexandria, MN; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Klimek of Spring Lake Park, MN; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Raymond Klimek.

Peter Nicholas Klimek was born January 24, 1998, in Seoul, South Korea. He was adopted by Paul and Carol (Schluender) Klimek at 6 months old and grew up in New Ulm, MN. He was a 2016 graduate from Cathedral High School, where he participated in football, wrestling, and track. After graduation, Peter proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Peter was stationed in Twentynine Palms, California, and did one tour in the Middle East, mainly Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria. He was honorably discharged in June of 2020 and decided to continue his education at the University of Colorado Denver where he was a sophomore studying finance.

A main theme in Peter’s life was the outdoors and his fierce independence. In his free time, Peter was an avid skier, hiker, and camper. He enjoyed traveling and meeting new people from all around the world and could find a good conversation anywhere. He had a love of cooking and finding unique restaurants with delicious food, and he loved introducing his family and friends to these newfound places. Peter was a smart, kind soul who had a great sense of humor and believed in true friendship. He was a loyal friend to many.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Wounded Warrior Project, or the Eagle’s Healing Nest.
