Rev. Leo Andrew Dummer, OMI, born in West Newton, Minnesota on September 7, 1932, died in San Antonio, Texas on February 4, 2022 at the age of 89 years. Fr. Dummer professed vows as a member of the Congregation of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate on August 15, 1954 and was ordained to the priesthood on May 24, 1959 in Pass Christian, Mississippi.

Fr. Dummer spent most of his priestly ministry serving the people in California. He spent many years as a teacher at various High Schools in California: Alemany High School and Bishop O’Dowd High School, (Oakland); Fermin Lasuen HS, (San Pedro). He also served as Bursar in the United States Province as well as in Zambia while on assignment there in 1999-2006. In 2016, he moved to Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio.

Fr. Dummer is preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Theresa (Liebl) Dummer; brothers Donat and wife Vernita, nieces Barbara and Linda; sister Bernice Dummer Palmer and husband James Palmer and nephews Stephen, Michael, Patrick and Douglas; and brother Joseph Dummer. Brother-in-law James Powers and Melvin Hillesheim. He is survived by sisters Anne Powers, Mildred Hillesheim, sister Joan and husband Patrick Rosenhamer, Brother David and wife Nikki Dummer, sister-in-law Marge and numerous nieces and nephews. Fr. Dummer will be remembered with respect and esteem by his Oblate brothers and all the people who were recipients of his pastoral care.

Services will be held at Oblate Madonna Residence St. Eugene Chapel in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, with Rosary at 9:00 AM and Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM and interment of his cremains at San Fernando, California at a later date. Details are pending.
