Willard George Wilfahrt was born February 16, 1932, in Sleepy Eye to Robert and Martha (Berg) Wilfahrt. He attended country grade school in Sigel Township before going to work on his family’s farm. Willard was united in marriage to Alice Rothmeier on May 26, 1953, in Springfield. This union blessed the couple with three daughters, and five sons whom together they raised on the family farm in Sigel Township. Willard worked as a dedicated crop, dairy, and hog farmer his entire life before retiring to New Ulm in 2014. Besides his work on the farm, there were a variety of hobbies Willard enjoyed in life. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved spending time hunting in the woods or fishing on area lakes. As a social man, he always loved a good round of cards with family and friends. Willard rarely missed his morning cup of coffee he enjoyed sharing with neighbors in Essig. He was a dedicated member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity where he was also active with the Catholic Order of Foresters as well as the Catholic United. Willard was also a past a member of the Lost Dog and Fox Hunters Club. What brought Willard the most joy in his life was time he got to spend with his family. He especially loved getting to see his many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow up. Although his passing seems sudden, Willard lived a strong 89 years and helped build a family he was very proud of. He will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him. Blessed be his memory.
