Mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date in the spring of 2022 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes of New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time.

John is survived by his daughter, Kristie Parkinson of Grand Junction, Colorado; his sons, Mike Longcor of Chandler, Arizona, Mark Longcor of New Ulm; his 2 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Arlene Schroepfer of Sleepy Eye.

John Alex Altenburg was born Sept. 20, 1933, in Milford Township, Brown County to Alex and Hildegard (Zangel) Altenburg.
