Harry L. Stock
Harry Leroy Stock, age 87 of Park Rapids passed away on December 9, 2021.
Harry was born on June 15, 1934, to Catherine and Harry Stock of Fairmont. Growing up on their farm he hunted pheasants and was a standout for the Fairmont track team. He even ran in the Drake relays. After graduating from Fairmont High School in 1952 Harry joined the United States Air Force where he served for 8 years.
In October of 1955 Harry married Marlene Hoppe, his childhood sweetheart, and were together for the next 64 years. After completing his service in the Air Force, Harry attended Mankato State University where he received his teaching degree. He taught elementary school in Burnsville and later in Mankato. Harry went on to earn a Master’s in Education and then became the Principal at Jefferson Elementary School in New Ulm until his retirement in 1994.
Harry enjoyed watching his son’s sporting events and introducing them to hunting and fishing. As a family they enjoyed trips to the west coast and yearly fishing outings to Alexandria where the boys learned the finer points of walleye fishing. During his retirement Harry and Marlene spent time between Park Rapids and Palm Harbor, Florida where they were active within their communities and sang in the church choir. Harry especially enjoyed his woodworking hobby of Intarsia.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene in May of 2020. He is survived by his brother Doug, sister Marion and sons, Neil (Leigh Ann) and Todd as well as 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
