NEW ULM — Harris P. Franz, 88 from New Ulm, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side.
He was born on January 16, 1933 in Mt. Lake, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm and went to a local country school until 8th grade, then attended Mt. Lake High School, graduating in 1951.
He went on to Dunwoody Institution in Minneapolis, and became an electrical engineer.
He married his high school sweetheart, Lorraine Menken, on October 16, 1953.
They lived in Wichita, Kansas for 3 years, where Harris was employed at St. Francis Hospital as an electrician. In 1956 they moved back to Minnesota, residing in Windom, where Harris continued his electrical career working for Hiebert Electric. In 1970 Harris made a change in his profession and bought a ServiceMASTER franchise for Brown & Nicollet Counties. The family moved to New Ulm at that time. Harris continued his business until his retirement in 1999.
He continued his involvement in church activities, going on several missions trips and retreats.
He enjoyed doing many household projects, creating things with wood, fishing, camping, sports.
He was a proud fan of the Twins, Vikings and Gophers.
Harris loved the Lord and his life exemplified that. Harris is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lorraine; daughters Sheryl Esau (DeVon) of St. Peter, MN, Kathy Majeske (Frank) of Denver, PA; sons Scott Franz (Patti) of Oak Grove, MN, Tim Franz of Belle Plaine, MN; 8 grandchildren and their spouses and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter & Mary Franz; sisters Marcella Wiebe (Abe) and Wilma Krause (David); and brothers, Willard Franz (Marlys) and Harlan Franz (in infancy).
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec 4, 2021 at Oakwood Church in New Ulm. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. with the service beginning at 11 a.m. Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home.
