SLEEPY EYE — Kenneth Leo Schons, age 76 of Sleepy Eye passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 14, 2021 following a battle with Amyloidosis, an abnormal protein produced in the bone marrow.

Visitation will be on Sunday, October 17, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m. and will continue on Monday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Sturm Funeral Home, Sleepy Eye Chapel.

Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye on Monday, October 18, 2021 at 11 am.

The clergy will be Father Mark Steffl. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Ken “Kenny” was born January 21, 1945 to Leo & Mary Lucille (Cote) Shons in Tracy. He attended the Catholic school in Madison through 8th grade and then attended and graduated from the public school. He met the love of his life, Audrey Ann Wille of Lamberton at a dance in Sanborn in March of 1965. The couple was married on June 11, 1966 and made their home in Sleepy Eye. This 55-year marriage was blessed with three sons, Douglas, Jeffery and Bradley. Ken held various jobs in Sleepy Eye, starting with the Sleepy Eye Green House and City of Sleepy Eye before he began his 32-year career at AUI/Norwood. He retired in 2007. From entertaining numerous country bands with his guitar and vocal talents, to camping, fishing, woodworking, card playing and gardening. The most important time Ken spent was with his family. He always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell, and advice to give. His kindness and compassion towards other is what drew so many to him. He was the kind of person everyone wanted as their dad, husband, grandpa and friend.

Ken is survived by his wife, Audrey of Sleepy Eye; sons, Doug (Maura) Schons of O’Fallon MO, Jeff (Paula) Schons of Brownton, and Brad Schons of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Trista (Ben) Novy of Hutchinson, Molly (Chris) Salazar of Phoenix, AZ, Alex (Lexi) of Glencoe, Adam (fiance Mary Kate Anzalone) of Wentzville, MO, Lucille, Rosaleigh, Beckett, Camryn, and baby due in December.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Lucille Schons; sisters, Elaine and Ruth; brothers, Bernard and William; his mother-in-law Christine.
