Gerald Joseph Beranek was born October 5, 1949, in New Ulm to Benedict and Valeria (Brey) Beranek. He went to country grade school in St. George, and later attended Cathedral High School. Gerald was united in marriage to Cynthia Newman on September 4, 1977, in Comfrey, Minnesota. This union blessed the couple with four daughters and four sons whom together they raised on their farm in rural St. George. Gerald worked his entire life as a dedicated farmer, a tradition he passed down to his next generation. Besides his work on the farm, Gerald enjoyed a good game of cards with friends and family and especially loved playing Sheepshead with his card club. As a man proud of the green and yellow, Gerald also enjoyed collecting John Deere toy tractors. Even though he retired from farming, you can take the farmer off the farm, but you can’t take the farm out of the farmer. Gerald was always there for his farm neighbors anytime they were in need. He still enjoyed going for country drives just to check the crops and relax. He was a devout and dedicated member of St. George Catholic Church where he served on the Cemetery Board for many years. The three most important things in Gerald’s life were his faith, his farm, and his family. He cherished every moment he got to spend with his wife, his children, and grandchildren. He was always ready with candy or a treat to spoil his grandkids. Gerald lived a strong 71 years in his life and helped raise an amazing family. He will be dearly missed by many, but his memory will stay in their hearts forever. Blessed be his memory.
