Carol May Alwin

NEW ULM — Carol May Alwin of New Ulm, born May 7, 1930 passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021. She was the daughter of Harry and Hertha (Isenberg) Neuenfeldt of St. Paul, MN. She graduated from Johnson High School in 1947 and attended St. Cloud Teachers College where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She came to New Ulm in 1953. She immediately felt at home as it was the first time her last name was easily pronounced. In 1954, she met the love of her life, Floyd Alwin and they were married July 10, 1955, at Hope Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. Carol taught 4th grade until she and Floyd started their family. They were blessed to have 5 children. After raising their children, Carol became a full time teacher in Hanska. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching her students up until the time she retired in 1996. Carol loved to entertain, bake and cook, but family was her passion. She also enjoyed music, camping, being at the cabin, playing games and celebrating every holiday.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Julie (Mike) Brown of Elk River; Lauri (John) Hansen of Milwaukee, WI; Susan (Jon Bremseth) Joyce of Naples, FL; Jodie (Wayne Scanlan) Alwin of Hugo, and son Steve (Rachel) Alwin of Chandler, AZ; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Alwin; parents; her sister, Lois Schmidt; and son-in-law, Michael Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Hills Living Center as they were amazing in taking care of both of our beloved parents. Please send cards and memorials to Jodie Alwin at PO Box 516, Hugo, MN 55038.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm, and burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Due to seating limitations at the church, seating for the service will be reserved for family, and the first guests in attendance.

A walk through visitation will be held from 10-11 am on Saturday at the church prior to the service.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date when family and friends can socially be together again.
