Robert “Bob” Brand

NEW ULM — Robert “Bob” Brand, age 89, of New Ulm died peacefully at his home on Friday, Oct. 16, 2020.

Mass of Christian burial will be noon on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Father Shawn Polman will celebrate the mass, and burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

The visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Social distancing guidelines must be practiced, and all guests in attendance at the visitation and funeral will be required to wear a mask.

Robert is survived by his wife Lucille; daughters Jodell Kral of New Ulm, Sharon (Roland) Tauer of New Ulm; son Scott Brand of New Ulm; grandchildren Dan (Jade) Kral, Brad Kral, Russ (Samantha) Kral, Mark Tauer, Mason Brand; great-grandchildren Bradley Kral, Ida Kral, Edward Kral, Emerson Kral, Holden Kral; sisters Doris Guemmer, Joleen Jorgensen; brothers Donald (Myrtle) Brand, David Brand; sister-in-law Diane Brand; brothers-in-law Jim Kruggel, Cole Carley, and many other relatives and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Kenneth Brand, Lowell Brand, Marvin Brand, Gerald Brand, Curt Brand; sisters Phyllis Schmitz, Marlys Drill, LaDonna Kissner, Carol Kruggel, and Diane Carley.

Robert Wallace Brand was born on Nov. 24, 1930 in New Ulm to Joseph and Sophia (Kuehn) Brand. He attended Holy Trinity High School in New Ulm and after graduation, he served in the United States Army. Robert was united in marriage to Lucille Helget on June 26, 1957 at St. Mary’s Church in Sleepy Eye. They were blessed with three children whom they raised in New Ulm. Robert spent most of his career working at Kraft and retired after 36 years. Robert loved spending time with his family and enjoyed getting to see everyone at family reunions or getting together to play sheepshead. Robert could always be found watching sports whether it be in person, on TV, or even listening to the games on the radio. He also thoroughly enjoyed getting to spend time outdoors and took pride in taking care of their yard. Robert was a member of the St. Joseph’s Society.

Robert will be dearly missed by all that knew him, blessed be his memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
