Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. on Monday, October 19, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. on Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-North Chapel in New Ulm.

Social distancing guidelines must be practiced, and all guests in attendance at the visitation and funeral will be required to wear a mask.

Norb is survived by his wife Elizabeth “Betty” Portner of New Ulm; his daughters, Ann Seifert of New Ulm, Lisa Portner of New Ulm, Mary Erbes of Marshall; his son, Steven E. Portner of New Ulm; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; and sisters, Marie Sprenger of New Ulm, Betty Gleisner of New Ulm, Doris Drage of Evan.

Norbert “Norb” Meinard Portner was born December 15, 1932, in Essig, to Edward and Mary (Ubel) Portner.
