Joseph “Joe” Leo Platz was born October 22, 1932 to Joseph, Sr. and Elizabeth (Schunk) Platz in Springfield. He attended school through 8th grade and later enlisted in the United States Army. Joe served his country from March, 1954, to December, 1955, touring in Korea and Japan. After his service, Joe was united in marriage to the love of his life, Janet Marie Turbes, on September 12, 1960. The couple was married at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda, MN, and their union was blessed with six children. In addition to being a father, Joe also worked as a milk hauler with Springfield Dairy, heavy equipment operator/mechanic with Mathiowetz Construction, and as a farmer. Joe also participated in organizations like the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, Parish Council, and was a strong pro-life advocate. He also served as an usher at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Joe was a humble man of few words. He often spent his time helping others, as well as reading his favorite newspaper, sports articles, and books. Joe also enjoyed going fishing and deer hunting with his friends and going on trips to Germany, Mexico, Alaska, the Holy Land, and wintering in Arizona. Many fond memories were made when Joe would tease the grandkids and give everyone very unique nicknames. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory.
