Larry Zimmerman

NEW ULM — Larry Zimmerman, 87, of New Ulm, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, March 20, 2020 at his home.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20th, 2020 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service at church on Saturday.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm is in charge of the arrangements.

Larry is survived by his daughters, Karen (Wayne) Wels of New Ulm, Linda (Allan) Wills of Nicollet and Peggy (Dave) Otto of Nicollet; a son, Barry (Shelli) Zimmerman of New Ulm; son-in-law, Robert Lindemann; 12 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren; a sister Maxine Durkee of Winnebag; and his sisters-in-law, Marjorie Zimmerman of Owatonna and DuAnn Zimmerman of Elmore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Beverly; a daughter JoEllen Lindemann; and by 2 brothers, 4 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.

Larry Joe Zimmerman was born May 25, 1932 in Mapleton to Rolla and Alice (Clint) Zimmerman. He was united in marriage to Beverly McCarthy on February 8, 1951 in Mapleton. They resided in New Ulm where Larry was employed at Ahrens Heating for 40 years before his retirement. Larry was a good humored, loving, caring, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He looked forward to his family’s visits. Larry enjoyed watching the Twins and the Vikings. He was always interested in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sports. Larry enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles with his daughters, and spending time helping Barry at Barry’s shop. Larry was a talented woodworker. He designed and created oak cabinets, tables, toys and other projects for his family and friends. Larry dearly loved his dog, Charlie, or Buddy as he was often called.
