Shirley D. Bohlmann

NEW ULM — Shirley D. Bohlmann, age 78 of New Ulm passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020, surrounded by her family at the Sleepy Eye Care Center.
A private family memorial service will be held at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Pastor Donald Sutton will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Due to current social constraints, there will not be a public visitation or service. The funeral will be live streamed on the Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes Facebook page. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sheri (Wayne) Portner; grandchildren, Alyssa (Andy) Slotrem, Bradley (Morgan) Portner, Katelyn Portner; brother, Erwin Steinke; brother-in-law, Robert Richter, brother-in-law, Warren (Mary) Bohlmann and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great niece.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Bohlmann; sister, Erma Richter and sister-in-law, Deb Steinke.
Shirley Bohlmann was born July 22, 1941 in New Ulm to Kurt and Orda (Schultz) Steinke. She was baptized, confirmed and attended grade school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She graduated from New Ulm High School in 1959. She married Thomas Bohlmann on October 27, 1962 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Shirley started to work at Kraft in 1960 and was the first female supervisor when promoted in 1976 and she retired in 1999. After retirement she worked at Burger King for over 20 years until her death. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Turner Ladies and a former member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, camping, crocheting and mushroom hunting but she especially loved to spend time with her family.
