Irene R. Hauser

SLEEPY EYE — Irene R. Hauser, age 93, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020, at the Divine Providence Community Home with family members by her side.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4 to 7 pm and will continue on Saturday from 9 until 10 am at the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

There will be a Christian Mothers Rosary at 3:30 pm and a Parish Prayer Service at 4 pm Friday at the funeral home.

Funeral Service will be held at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at 10:30 am.

Interment will be at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Sleepy Eye.

Irene Rose Langenhorst was born on March 31, 1926 in Granville, Iowa, the daughter of Felix and Rose (Hodapp) Langenhorst. She grew up on the family farm near Granville. She met Sylvester Hauser at a wedding dance on October 4, 1950 and subsequently married him on Jan. 29, 1952 at St. Joseph’s Church in Granville, IA. The new couple moved to Sleepy Eye, MN, where they farmed. They continued to farm until they retired in 1992, at which time they moved into a house they had built in Sleepy Eye, MN. Sylvester died Oct. 24, 2007.

Irene was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Sleepy Eye her entire life, where she participated in numerous fund-raising events and in perpetual adoration. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society and an active participant in the local 4-H organization. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed gardening, quilting, baking, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Laurie (Gary) Tauer of Sleepy Eye, Alan (Anne) Hauser of Chicago, Marlys (Dave) Schmitt of Hastings, and Gary (Danelle) Hauser of New Ulm; grandchildren, Ryan (Melissa) and Melissa Tauer, Grace and John Hauser, Kyle and Kristi Gangelhoff and Eric (Amy), Abby, Nathan and Jake Hauser; great-grandchildren, Madison Gangelhoff, Caleb and Declan Tauer, and Dustin Hauser.

She is preceded in death by her husband and parents; brother, Anthony, and sisters Marie (Robert) Schnepf and Marion (John) Wernke.
