Kenneth Eckstrand

LAFAYETTE — Kenneth Eckstrand, 79, of Lafayette died peacefully Friday, Jan. 10, 2020 at his home.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, at the Minnesota valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm with Pastor Erik Karlson officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Lafayette American Legion Post.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Kathleen Eckstrand of Lafayette; sons, Robert Eckstrand of New Ulm, Tim (Shelly) Krohn of Winthrop, Charles (Mallory) Eckstrand of Gibbon; and his grandchildren, Tierra Edwards, Emily Eckstrand, Andrew Eckstrand and Samantha Eckstrand.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter-in-law, Renee Eckstrand.

Kenneth Charles Eckstrand was born Oct. 23, 1940. His parents were Gottfrid and Agnes (Holmquist) Eckstrand. He was a 1958 graduate of Gibbon High School. Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961. After his service to his country he farmed in Cornish Township, Sibley County. He was united in marriage to Kathleen Anderson on Nov. 5, 1976 at Norseland Lutheran Church. Along with farming he was also a truck driver for UFC until retiring in 2006. Kenneth’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, spoiling his grandkids, and buying, fixing and driving tractors.

Kenneth was an active member of DAV Chapter #15 in New Ulm, Lafayette American Legion Post, International Harvester Collector’s Club of Minnesota Chapter #15, and the LSC Pioneer Power Association.
