Richard F. Gruenhagen

GIBBON — Richard F. Gruenhagen, 83, of Gibbon passed away Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the NC Little Hospice Home in Edina.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, January 17, 2020 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township with Pastor Benjamin Rucker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday, January 16, 2020 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and will continue from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Friday at the Church.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; their children, Scott (Gail Minehart) Gruenhagen, Denise (Daniel) Griep, Tracy Gruenhagen; grandchildren, Ellison, Rose (Kevin), Jack, Hannah, Mary and Paige; sister-in-law, Verna Gruenhagen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Gruenhagen; sister, Kathleen (Darryl) Olson.

Richard Frederick Gruenhagen was born July 12, 1936 to Albert and Elsie (Burdorf) Gruenhagen in Gibbon. He graduated from Gibbon High School in 1954. He married Phyllis Schreiner on August 17, 1957 at Saint Willibrords in Gibbon. Richard farmed his whole life on the family farm while also selling seed for various companies. He was a member of the Gibbon Sportsman Club and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church where he also served as a past council member. He was a master tinkerer. He loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting, gardening and hunting morel mushrooms but above all else he loved to spend time with his family.
