Elmer Meine

SPRINGFIELD — Elmer Meine, age 94, of Springfield, MN died on October 19, 2019, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 21, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Sturm Funeral Home, Springfield Chapel and will continue on Tuesday from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at the St. Raphael Catholic Church in Springfield, MN.

Service will be held on Tuesday at the St. Raphael Catholic Church at 10:30 am.

The clergy will be Father Phil Schotzko. Interment will be at the St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery.

Elmer Carl Meine was born on September 11, 1925, in rural Springfield, MN, the son of Ernest and Mary (Renner) Meine. Following his schooling, he served in the U.S. Armed Forces and was stationed in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge he returned to Springfield and ran a greenhouse with his brother – Wally. Elmer was united in marriage to Rose Vogel on June 2, 1954 in Springfield. The couple owned and operated their own greenhouse from 1955 until 1998. The couple would enjoy their pop breaks in the afternoon when Rose and Elmer would drive around Springfield. Following retirement, Elmer drove grain truck for his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Ralph Pabst. He enjoyed the outdoors, loved tending to their large flower and vegetable gardens, fishing, and evening fires in the backyard. He was a great storyteller and loved spending time and joking with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of St. Raphael’s Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Springfield American Legion.

He is survived by his children – Linda (Tom) Gartner of Springfield, Karen (Ralph) Pabst of Sanborn, Deb (Dan) LaCourse of Glenwood, and Steve (Max) Meine of Springfield; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and in-laws – Eileen Vogel, Fern Meine, Alene Vogel, Alvin Wille, Tony Vogel, Nancy Vogel, and Eleanor Teicher. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife – Rose in 2012; son-in-law – Steve Schwartz; and siblings – Laura Schnobrich, Walter Meine, Esther Jenkins, Gertie Willhite, Rose Rambow, Edward Meine, and Frida Meine in infancy.
