Cyle Dewitt Gruver

Cyle Dewitt Gruver

Cyle Dewitt Gruver, 62, son of Calvin Dewitt Gruver and Terrance Beverly Gruver (aka Terry Krause) died on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019 at Mayo Hospital in Mankato.

Cyle was born on Sept. 6, 1957 in Minneapolis. Cyle had a normal childhood and grew into a handsome, talented teen, played basketball and bass guitar. He was always an out-of-the-box creative thinker with a quietly surprising sense of humor. His life path was changed drastically when at age 14 he had a malignant brain tumor and underwent experimental sur- gery, which left him partially paralyzed. He worked very hard in physical therapy and learned to think positively as he always far exceeded any predictions of his odds for successful recovery. He walked, traveled, camped, fished and loved to talk and socialize. He graduated from Saint Cloud State University and worked 30 years, most of it with MBW in New Ulm, helping people with brain damage to become more independent. He also survived a bear attack while winter camping alone, a horrendous car accident, falls that caused additional head injuries and more. He married the love of his life, Jan, in 2004. After retirement, he enjoyed becoming a ceramic artist at the Arts Center of St. Peter. Cyle was a kind-hearted, brave, good man with a great sense of humor. He maintained long-term friendships with many people, prominent among them are Doug, Pete, George, Tim, Jim, Tom, and Mark. In the end, he suffered health complications due to receiving so much radiation in his youth. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jan Waller, of St. Peter, sister, Mary Lenore Gruver, step-mother Meredith Medler, uncle Charles Krause, mother in-law Gladys Waller and many other family and friends. He was extraordinary and he will be missed.

Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1706 Lee Blvd, North Mankato, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the Arts Center of Saint Peter or Messiah Lutheran Church.
